In the Arctic Lapland, we have 8 seasons. Now it’s time for autumn-winter, mystical and calm shoulder season between autumn and winter in Lapland. October and November are known as “first snow” months, and this is when nature is slowly preparing itself for colder weather to come. Temperatures slowly go down to below zero celsius, the air is crisp and fresh in the mornings with frost covering plants making the autumn colors really pop.

The northern lights during autumn
During autumn-winter, we are slowly shifting from midnight season in the summer to polar night summer in the winter, making days shorter and the nights darker. Colder weather often comes with clear night sky, and if you’re lucky, it is possible to even see the northern lights and amazing starry skies during your stay in Saariselkä. From our Aurora Glass Cabins, you have a chance of viewing the aurora borealis from the comfort of your bed, and our guests have listed this as one of the most memorable experiences of their lifetime.
