The Aurora Borealis – also known as the Northern Lights or Fire of the Foxes, “Revontulet”, as we say in Finnish. This magical phenomenon has many names, and in the Saariselkä region, we are lucky to witness it often during the dark time of the year. Statistics show it occurs around 200 times a year here in Lapland, and on average, they can be seen every second night during the season in Saariselkä latitude. But why don’t we see them every time we go hunting for them? Well, what we need are clear skies and darkness, as well as solar activity. That’s it. If you can see the stars, you have a chance to see the Northern Lights too. The Northern Light season lasts from September to March – come and see for yourself, the Auroras will be waiting!
